Bishop Bledsoe has issued a warning to all local churches regarding a rampant phone scam which is currently running through both NWTX and NM Annual Conferences.
"Persons unknown" have been calling on pastors personally, and their church offices, claiming they are speaking for the Bishop and asking for money assistance. Sometimes the caller claims to BE the Bishop, (quite effectively, apparently) and has names and schedules of staff and conference to further authenticate their plea. The reason is usually that they or someone else unknown is traveling and has broken down, needing money to move on, procure housing, etc.
Again, these con artists know names of conference staff, schedules, and are not afraid to very effectively impersonate whomever, in order to substantiate their claims.
Please be assured, the Bishop does not know any of these people, nor would he ever suggest that Pastors/Churches administer help someone in this way.
Do NOT send/wire money to anyone involved in this scam. Take note of names, get numbers and let your Attorney General's office or other authorities know immediately if you should find yourself targeted by these individuals.
