Daniel E. Phillips Memorial Scholarship
The Daniel E. Phillips Memorial Scholarship is intended for second career ministerial students who are pursuing their education through Course of Study or Seminary. Daniel Phillips served First United Methodist Church in Deming, NM, as a Pastoral Assistant, a second career for him after taking early retirement from the Federal government. Daniel became a certified candidate, intending to go through the candidacy process. His chosen second career was cut short, however, when he was killed in a motorcycle accident. Daniel's wife, Claire, established this scholarship in his name, so that the goal Daniel so cherished might be reached by other candidates aspiring to become ministers.
