The NM Annual Conference offers a wide variety of communication offerings that will assist you in ministry, from print to digital to live and up close.  Here is an overview of the many communication tools available to you:

 

Subscribe free to the weekly online ENewsletter, NMVOICES, published each Monday from the Conference Office. You'll find prayer requests concerning leadership folks and local and national needs, important conference information on trainings and events open to most,  articles to delight and entertain as well as educate you, and links to much much more. [Absolutely no junk/spam transmitted!]

Don't be left out of the many things going on in the life of your UM Annual Conference. Contact online communications coordinator for NMAC, Cheryl Hicks, in the conference office to be added to the email list, !  Let us be of use to you in getting the word out about all phases of ministry and outreach.

 

      Our Conference also provides its own edition of the UM Reporter by subscription:  Shared Voices is published in print and available online once a month. It is devoted completely to things going on in this Conference.  Contact Lori Kottenbrook in the Conference office to subscribe; or talk with editor Karla Abernethy-Thetford,  , who is also Conference Communications Director for NM .  Karla can provide you with information about article submission, classifieds, advertising, and discuss the best way to serve you in this way.

 

      And did you know there is a Facebook page devoted to NM UMC People?  Check it out on Facebook New Mexico UMC People. You'll enjoy a lively ongoing conversation going on about all kinds of things United Methodist and more...between your UMC constituents!

 

      Click on the Media Library link of the Quick Links (see left side of this webpage), and find out how to access videos and downloadable dvds.  Sharing videos of ministry and teaching is a valuable tool in keeping us all up to date and inspired for the work we do.  Submit your own and share the wealth!

 

      Needing employment?  Have an item to sell or donate??  Click on the Classifieds link of the Quick Links menu to the left on this page, and see how you can advertise/publicize your needs and offerings.  It's all about communicating via the right avenues, and you have many modes available to you in the NMAC.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR VIRTUAL RESOURCING ongoing Education!

 

 

UMC Cyber Campus will be a web site where people can find a 45 minute maximum recorded training resource about a subject that will be available anytime, anywhere, to anyone, if the internet is accessible.  UMC Cyber Campus will nurture grassroots leadership from a distance, empower local leaders, encourage small group discussions, and provide more frequent opportunities to engage in United Methodist materials for leadership development, especially for the younger generations.

Your Annual conference may already have visual educational or training materials available.  Please submit your educational material as a standard video recording or a web conference recording using WebEx, if you have your own account.  Below you will find the original proposal of the program and the submission forms (in printable or electronically fillable form) for your reference.  These documents should answer most questions related to technicalities, submission of materials, quality standards, topical categories, project information, etc.

March 4-6, 2013 – New Communicators Orientation

United Methodist Communications sponsors an orientation for persons who have recently assumed responsibility for work in the area of communications. The orientation will take place in Nashville at United Methodist Communications, Monday, March 4 – Wednesday, March 6, 2013. This will be an opportunity to tour the general agencies, meet staff, and learn about the partnership we share in communications ministry.

 United Methodist Communications will provide meals and lodging for the event, the only expense to the participant is for travel. For more information, contact Royya James at 615-742-5461 or .

 

March 7, 2013 – Spokesperson Skill Development Training,

Communicating Through the News Media

This workshop is a must for anyone who speaks to the news media. This highly interactive one day seminar will help you develop basic skills for communicating effectively with print, radio and television reporters.  You will learn to create a positive image of your organization, control your message, and use hands-on learning methods to become a more confident and articulate spokesperson.  

Participants will receive individual coaching to help them successfully utilize interview techniques and build confidence, as well as numerous on-camera experiences, answering reporters’ questions during realistic scenarios. The interviews are followed by individual and group critiques.

Before the training, each participant will be asked to complete an individual needs assessment questionnaire, to help in understanding each person’s experience and role in the organization.

This training is specifically designed to be relevant for conferences, local churches and other church-related organizations. The cost of this course is $249. Participation is limited, so register early!

From the National Labor Relations Board comes a report from the Acting General Counsel concerning social media cases involving employers and employees and the use of social media.

Issued in January of 2012, all employers–including non-profits–should be aware of these cases as they establish social media policies for employers and employees.
