Welcome to the El Paso District of the New Mexico Annual Conference!

The El Paso District stretches from the southern New Mexico/Arizona border to the Odessa, TX area.  This span of approximately 600 miles can pose some obstacles, but it has not affected the enthusiasm of our local churches to do ministry.

The population in the District is about 75% Hispanic.  Our churches are seeking ways to be more inviting, understanding, and welcoming to our Hispanic brothers and sisters, as they reach out and share the love of Jesus with them.   Missions continues to be a passion for this District. Mission teams from our area have visited and worked in the Democratic Republic of the Congo,  & in Nicaragua.  Many support the Presidio Mission on the border in Presidio, TX, and the work of the Lydia Patterson Institute in El Paso.  Our work with Operacion Hogar in Juarez has sadly been put on hiatus due to the recent increase in violence and murder in Juarez, Mexico;  we keep our brothers and sisters there in our prayers as they struggle with this disturbing development.

We are excited about the launch of The Ridge UMC in El Paso, started and supported by the mission spirit of Western Hills UMC in El Paso.  Another new faith community in Las Cruces NM will be launched soon by the commitment and supportive spirit of St. Paul's UMC of Las Cruces.    We proudly support the work of our Wesley Foundations at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces, UTEP in El Paso, and Sul Ross University in Alpine.  These educational outreach facilities are the next step in ministering to our young people.

Finally, the importance of our premier annual training event, held at Trinity-First UMC in El Paso each January, Equipping Disciples for Excellence (EDE, EYE, and EKE) continues its impact on our conference.  We look forward to 2012 E.D.E. on January 28, 2012, and the many fine workshops in leadership and ministry development that will be offered.  Mark your Calendars now!
