El Pueblito reaches goal!
By Steve Wiard, Pastor
El Pueblito UMC in Taos
Three years ago I had the opportunity to visit West Africa with a friend of mine who is from Burkina Faso, just north of Ghana. I spent three weeks with him traveling through both countries. I had my own mosquito net with me and became very aware of the need of nets for others, particularly children.
Because of my experience, it was easy to get on board the NM Nets project.
We placed our average worship attendance at 60, (a little higher than normal, but all for a good cause.) At $10 per net, we needed to come up with $600, which we did by Christmas!
Anna Kay Davis, one of our Sunday school teachers, came up with a visual graph to mark our contributions as they came in every week. The children of our church helped me every Sunday to fill in our graph and show our progress.
We were one of the early churches in the Albuquerque Dstrict and/or NM Annual Conference to reach our goal, and also put D.S. Tom Nagle under his own mosquito net!

Albuquerque District Superintendent Tom Nagle was asked to come forward at one of our church services, take a seat and close his eyes. I was assisted by one of our young kids, Emma, and we placed a mosquito net over Nagle, much to his pleasant and bewildered surprise.
All this was done to heighten awareness of the “NM Nets for Mulungwishi campaign” for our Albuquerque District and for El Pueblito UMC in Taos, as well.
