Article Submission GuidelinesWritten by Peggy Wilson Friday, 23 August 2013 00:00
In order to keep members of the New Mexico Conferences informed, we ask that the various conference ministries, boards and agencies and local churches submit meeting reports, ministry stories, events, etc. to Cheryl Hicks in the Conference office, for inclusion in the conference e-newsletter, Web sites and singular e-mail news reports. (With the closing of United Methodist Reporter print publications in May 2013, we are no longer able to support a regional NMAC print publication ourselves.)
Our Conference website is at http://www.nmconfum.com and features news and articles of interest to all members and friends of the NM Conference. The NM Voices E-Newsletter of the NM Annual Conference is published online weekly on Mondays, and other news/prayers can be sent out as a single transmission in between times.
Below are a few guidelines when submitting information.
Include the name of the team, board, agency or church and the name of the person submitting the information. Also, provide contact information – email and phone numbers.
Meetings: Include information of any decisions made, voting results and any details of projects or events that you want to begin sharing with the conference. Every detail of a meeting does not need to be shared – just action items or projects, events that may impact the conference. Think about what you would want to know if you were reading about such a meeting. Keep the report to 500 words or less. The submission will be subject to editing.
Events/projects: Include who, what, when, where, why.
Make sure any registration information is included as well as any costs associated with the event. Make sure any deadlines are listed and that information on where to get registration forms is included. Do submit a registration form – that can be included on the Web site and in email /enews. Ministry stories: Articles will be edited for journalistic style. Articles should be no more than 750 words. Do not write in first person. Try to stay away from "we, our, us"... Include quotes when appropriate and make sure to put the name of the person who said it as well as their title.
Please, please proofread your article! Having to publicize corrections is annoying to readers and compromises the importance of your information.
Photos: Submit photos via email if at all possible. Make sure the resolution is 200 dpi and that the size of the photo is smaller than 8x10. Do not make any other adjustments – the communication office will take care of that. Make sure to include the names of those in the photo and/or what the photo is about. Also, include a photo credit (who took the picture) if available. Photos also can be mailed to Cheryl Hicks in the Conference Office, 11816 Lomas Blvd NE, Albuquerque NM 87112 or emailed to her at , jpeg or gif format, please. Do not fax photos, send a faxed photo, copy of a photo or photo clipped from a newspaper – those will not reproduce well. And, remember: You must have parental permission to publish photos of anyone under the age of 18.
Stories should be emailed to or mailed to Cheryl Hicks, NMAC Office, 11816 Lomas Bvd. NE, Albuquerque, NM 87112. Stories will be published as timely as possible. If the story is time sensitive, please indicate and adhere to the following deadlines: New Mexico E News is published weekly on Mondays.
