GENERAL INFORMATION
THE B.O.M. meets three times
each year: all Board of Ordained Ministry members are expected to attend all 3
meetings each year.
Annual Conference (early June, usually the day before AC
begins);
Annual Clergy Retreat (Fall);
Mid-month each February (meets for at least two days and is
also used as the time to interview
candidates for ordination
and commissioning. )

AT MOUNT SEQUOYAH, Fayetteville Arkansas:
Lenten Sermon Writing Retreat
Preachers, how will you prepare for the busy Lenten season? “Jesus…went off to a
solitary place….” (NIV, Mark 1:35)—and preaching persons might consider the
same! Clergy and lay ministers are invited to come to Mount Sequoyah Conference
Center in Fayetteville, Arkansas, January 11-15, 2010 for the peace and
hospitable space to undertake your in-depth preparation and sermon writing for
this season. You’ll be provided with the privacy of a single room with private
bath, twelve meals, and ample time to write and study. Our lightly programmed
week will include daily Lenten preaching seminars with a different guest
preacher each day, morning prayer, and lunchtime roundtable discussions. Cost:
$395 per person, Commuter $155. For an additional fee, private sessions are
available for spiritual companioning, contemplative healing touch, and massage.

Clergywomen’s Gathering
“Living in Balance: Recapturing Our Creativity”
How do we live in balance when we are pulled in many directions? The
clergywomen’s gathering at Mount Sequoyah Conference Center in Fayetteville,
Arkansas April 7-9, 2010 will focus on recapturing our creativity as well
as offering a time of renewal, learning and fellowship with other women in
ministry. The keynote speaker will be Rev. Yolanda Villa, District
Superintendent of the Heartland Central District, Missouri Conference. The
gathering will include small group workshops on “Living the Story”, “Soul
Strings”, “Self- Exploration through Mask Making”, “The Art of Eating Mindfully”
and “Discernment”. These workshops are designed to spark our creative spirits
and renew us for the work of ministry within the greater context of “living in
balance”. CEU’s will be available.

Allen Walker Scholarship for Preaching, 2009 (watch for updates for 2010!)
Are you a Pastor who wants to enhance your preaching skills or expand your resources for preaching? The original intent of the scholarship was to help pastors in their quest for quality training experiences in the fine art of preaching. Through the Scholarship Committee of the Board of Ordained Ministry, the Allen Walker Scholarship for Preaching is being made available in 2009.
One award will be made in the amount of $150 in 2009. Applications are available through the Board of Ordained Ministry office. Contact Carol Kaemper at the conference office (505-255-8786) office or at ckaemper@nmconfum.com for an application. The scholarship may be applied to the cost of any workshop, seminar, or course designed to assist participants enhance their skills and resources in preaching.
The endowed scholarship for preaching was established in memory of the late Reverend Allen D. Walker. Primary funding for the endowment came through memorial gifts and the Allen Walker Golf Tournament that has been held just prior to annual conference sessions.
Deadline for submission of an application is June 30, 2009. The award may be used at any time between June 1 and December 31, 2009.

Service Requirement (¶ 324.2 – Each candidate shall have demonstrated his or her gifts for ministries of service and leadership to the satisfaction of the district committee on ordained ministry as a condition for provisional membership, verified by letter from district superintendent.
