Saturday, April 14th
10 am – 4 pm at St. John’s UMC-ABQ
Last year, the NM Conference Engaging Team conducted a Conference-wide phone survey. The results suggested that our churches and those involved in ministry were either reaching out beyond the walls of their church – asking “What’s next?”, or they recognized the needs in their community and wanted information about how to begin. A #SeeAllthePeople Event seemed to be the perfect fit. Our goals for this interactive workshop are to provide the desired inspiration and information, while also allowing adequate time for networking and gathering of resources from fellow Conference folks who are doing innovative, successful ministry in their contexts.
Our Keynote Speaker will be Rev. Junius B. Dotson, General Secretary & CEO of Discipleship Ministries and one of the architects of the #SeeAllthePeople movement. He will discuss what is working in other places and inspire us to reach out beyond our church walls in faith. He will also lead our Closing Worship.
Discipleship Ministries believes that for too long The United Methodist Church has looked for a quick fix to help guide our discipleship efforts. Therefore, we are called to be in relationship with the communities that surround our churches. We are called to recapture a spirit of movement. We must shift our thinking from fixing churches to true discipleship.
Following a networking lunch, we will set up separate areas for breakout leaders to discuss their innovative ministries. We will provide 4 scheduled times to visit breakouts. Breakouts will include:
- “Missionizing” or repurposing church space
- Interfaith Sheltering/Community partnerships
- Ministering to refugees
- Family Promise/Saranam – Homeless populations
- Youth Generation/Campus Ministries
- Operacion Hogar/Habitat for Humanity
- Topics that bubble up…
Who should attend?
- Clergy, laity & teams who are currently involved in ministry outside the walls and are thinking, “What’s next?”
- Those who recognize ministry needs in their community and are thinking “How?”
Registration is $10 in advance/ $15 at the door.
