St. John’s UMC Santa Fe is preparing for a mission trip to the Shiprock area in September. We have ten spots open and welcome anyone who would like to come work and fellowship with us.
When: Monday – Friday, Sept. 9-13, 2024
Where: We will be working with the Four Corners Native American Ministry of the NM United Methodist Conference in the Shiprock area. The dorm/camp is in Ojo Amarillo just outside of Farmington.
Cost: About $165 per person, with scholarships available as needed. This includes breakfast and lunch and lodging at the camp. Evening meal is on our own. Last year we enjoyed either preparing our own dinners or going out and supporting the local economy. Linens are provided but you may bring your own if you prefer. Note: Because this location is fairly close, if anyone needs to adjust their start and end dates, they may. Room and board rate will be prorated accordingly.
Tasks: Last year we built a handicap ramp, installed a pro-panel roof, painted interior walls and ramps, cleaned yards and did landscape work. This year, any ramp building will be in conjunction with the NM Ramp Project. The work can be hot and strenuous and volunteers must be able to tolerate heat and dust. We welcome all, from happy helpers to skilled laborers and craftspersons. This year we will likely also help with water distribution. Trucks are welcome and much needed.
On Wednesday evening, we will prepare and serve a community meal with local guests. This is an opportunity to fellowship with the local community and staff of the Four Corners Native American Ministry.
