Mulungwishi is in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The average person survives on $400 per year. Only 46% of the population has access to improved drinking water sources. Four million children have been orphaned due to centuries of war and the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The United Methodist Church has been faithfully serving this impoverished, devastated land since the 1960’s*.
Ways that our Conference serves:
Mulungwishi Mission Station: David & Lori Person help to provide clean water, food, health care & education. In 2015, the NM Annual Conference raised $15,000 for Mulungwishi water wells.
Lord’s Mountain Orphanage: Children orphaned as a result of the HIV/AIDS epidemic
Mulungwishi Theological Seminary:
- All the United Methodist Church Bishops in the Congo and most of the Superintendents in Katanga province are graduates of the seminary.
- 1951: Katanga had one Annual Conference + 20,000 members – Today: six Annual Conferences + over 400,000 members!
- The seminary has become the high-level training center for pastors of other denominations in the region.
