Our very own Lydia Patterson Institute is under threat due to unexpected visa restrictions. These students need your voice to stand with them.
Call your members of congress. To find their names and numbers use www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member
When you call you can use the script below if you’d like.
Phone Script: Hi, my name is [Your Name], and I’m a United Methodist and a constituent from [City, State].
I’m calling to urge [Senator/Representative Name] to help resolve the State Department’s sudden pause on student visa appointments, which is already harming students at Lydia Patterson Institute (LPI) in El Paso, Texas.
LPI is a vital United Methodist bi-national ministry that has served border communities for over a century. It provides a life-changing education to low-income, high-achieving students—many of whom legally cross the U.S.-Mexico border daily to attend school.
Right now, both new and returning students are being blocked from getting or renewing visas, with no timeline or explanation. This is hurting students who’ve followed all the rules. This action is threatening the future of an institution that has launched generations of leaders—on both sides of the border—into college and service.
Please:
- Demand answers from the State Department
- Support fast-tracking or exemptions for students at accredited, cross-border schools like LPI
Thank you for standing with us and for protecting this important educational ministry.
