This webpage is dedicated to providing information to enable local churches to improve their communication.  One challenge is that communication is always changing.  As soon as a church gets on a channel, it becomes obsolete for a whole section of the population.  What's important is not to follow the trends but to consider what modes of communication will suit your church and your context.

Crisis Communication

It isn't a matter of if your church has to deal with a crisis but when it does.  Being prepared and knowledgeable is the key to making it through a crisis with those impacted and your church as protected as they can be.  There are several resources available here that will help you prepare.  One key is to have Safer Sanctuaries certifications up to date and all your policies and procedures readily available. You should take the time to create a crisis communication policy for your church.  If you have any questions, please contact the Conference Communications Director, Alli Newsom: email

Socia Media

For some churches, the use of social media: Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Vimeo, TikTok, etc. is useful.  It gets your church in front of people who you wouldn't be able to contact otherwise.  Other churches, especially in smaller rural settings may not see any advantages to using social media and a more in-person, relationship-building approach is preferable.  Most churches make the mistake of using social media in the same way they communicate with their church members.  A common mistake is posting announcements for events that are only of interest to your church goers or pretty-looking Scripture verse graphics.  If it's a community event like an annual Easter Egg Hunt, a backpack give-away or a VBS for all, then post on social media.  If your pastor said something in their sermon that you think would be relevant to others outside the church, post the clip.  One main caveat is only choose channels that you can post on at least weekly.  Resource are below and plentiful online.
