Message from New Mexico Conference Board of Trustees:
Trustees have continued the search for affordable property insurance for our conference churches. This past year we asked Lightwell Advisors and Brotherhood Insurance to survey all our churches in New Mexico and Texas. Lightwell put a team of individuals in the field and looked at our church properties, took measurements, documented building updates and noted potential claim hazards. They took the information to the insurance carriers in hopes of finding some plan to hold down the rising insurance costs we have experienced over the past 5 years.

Here is what they have presented:
For our churches in New Mexico, they could not find any insurance company that would provide the same coverage and limits for the price that Sovereign is charging us.
For our churches in Texas, who have experienced double digit rate increases and property deductibles as high as 5%, Lightwell has put together an insurance program that will lower property deductibles and reduce premiums in Texas.

Lightwell has proposed that due to Sovereign’s rates staying the same in 2026 as they were in 2025, church properties in New Mexico are best served by staying with Sovereign for both property and liability Insurance for the coming term.

Renewal premiums from Sovereign, for our New Mexico churches will be sent out to you within the week. Premiums will remain the same as long as there is no adjustment in the insured values.

If your church is in Texas, you will receive a new insurance proposal for your church insurance from Lightwell this coming week. This will be the conference insurance program for all Texas churches effective 03/01/2026- 03/01/2027. There will be additional emails to you on this in the next day or two.

The conference trustees are working to find the most affordable way to insure all conference properties. The insurance market is constantly moving, and we are doing our best to anticipate trends that will help posture our conference in the best possible position for a preferred rating structure for all ministries and churches in the conference.
