Bishop Robert Schnase of the New Mexico Conference announces the appointment of Rev. Ross Whiteaker as superintendent of the Albuquerque District. “I am so grateful for Ross’ leadership and his creative spirit. His willingness to say “Yes” and serve God through the work of the cabinet is deeply appreciated and profoundly significant during this unique time in the life of the church and our Conference.”

Rev. Whiteaker began his ministry in his hometown of Carlsbad, NM as a youth director for FUMC-Carlsbad. He studied government and political science at NMSU and received his M.Div at Iliff School of Theology. He began his ordained ministry as a member of the NWTX Conference, serving several churches and a church plant in Abilene. His first church in the NM Conference was Morning Star UMC in Las Cruces. His current appointment to Central UMC-ABQ began in 2021. Ross serves as the Chair of the Order of Elders and of the New Church Development Committee.

His appointment to ABQ District Superintendent will officially begin on November 1, 2023. Ross said, “I am thankful to Bishop Schnase for trusting me with this sacred task. It is an honor and I am humbled by the opportunity to serve the Albuquerque District. I look forward to getting to know all of our churches, support the pastors and the church’s ministries, and am excited about the future of the United Methodist Church.”

He is married to Michelle and they have two daughters, Ellice and Emmery. Ross loves spending time with his family, hunting, fishing, and has recently taken up hiking.
