Dear Clergy and Laity of the New Mexico Annual Conference,

It grieves me to share the following news.

This afternoon, Friday, August 11, I received a written and signed formal complaint against Rev. Dr. Randall Partin claiming misconduct as defined in paragraph 2702.1 of the 2016 Book of Discipline of The United Methodist Church. The letter is in accordance with the complaint procedures as outlined in Paragraph 362. In response, I have taken the first steps required by the Discipline, including contacting the Chair of the Conference Board of Ordained Ministry. I am initiating a supervisory response as set forth by the Discipline.

With the support of a recommendation of the Executive Committee of the Board of Ordained Ministry, I have suspended Randall from all clergy responsibilities, including those that pertain to the superintendency and the office of Provost.

Rev. Dr. Pam Rowley, District Superintendent of the El Paso District, will serve as Interim Provost on a part-time basis for the immediate future. She will also have oversight of the Albuquerque District until a replacement is named. I intend to announce arrangements for superintendency of the Albuquerque District as soon as possible.

I solicit your prayers for everyone involved with and affected by these actions and ask for your patience and understanding as the proper processes unfold. Please be respectful of Randall and his family during these weeks to come. This is a painful season for everyone involved.

Yours in Christ,

Robert Schnase, Bishop

The New Mexico Conference of The United Methodist Church
